Welcome to Zee Town, Cornwall's haven for placid zombies. The tourists love to visit, and the zombies, well, who knows what goes on behind those dead eyes!
In this first book in the Zee Town Cozy Mystery Series, things are going great for Cassie March, Zee Town's tourism manager. She's planning the fifth Zee Town Carnival, her placid zombies are happy, and the sun is shining.
But her blissful life doesn't last for long. Bert Figgins, a local businessman, is murdered, and all eyes are on the zombies. Cassie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation headed up by the grumpy police sergeant Nick Morton, accompanied by his faithful three-legged dog, Stool.
With the help of her friends, eccentric doctor, Selina, local baker, Laura, and best friend, Jen, Cassie decides to find out who the real murderer is, make sure the zombies aren't blamed, and ensure the Carnival still goes ahead.
Will Cassie keep the Carnival on track, stop Nick picking on the zombies, and find out who the real killer is?

Zombie Daze Zee Town Paranormal Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by KE O'Connor Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
I have loved the two other more action adventure oriented paranormal series I've read by this author and I am very fond of the cozy mystery genre. So I was a little bit disappointed in this story. It starts us off at a place where it's hard to get your bearings and understand what the heck Zee Town is all about and what the characters have been through and why they are the way they are. But it holds a lot of promise so I'm going to get the next book.I think the source of my lukewarm response was in how the story started off too upbeat in tone about the zombie situation. Characters who showed a bit of coolness or suspicion toward zombies were judged harshly by the main character. She seemed to have an almost manic protectiveness and need to have us see zombies in a positive light and in a frame of mind to judge a bit harshly people who were wary of zombies. While she seemed intent on insisting everyone keep an open mind about zombies, I was insistent on keeping an open mind about the man she was dismissing in insulting terms. I'm about to read his back story and find out why he is the way he is. But already I feel a bit sorry for him. I don't think our heroine has it in her to extend even an ounce of the understanding for him that she extends to zombies.
(Edit to update that I've just finished "Zombie Tails" and this helped me immensely in understanding how Zee Town came to be and its significance in the wake of the zombie apocalypse. I consider that story very important to making sense of this story).
You actually have to read for a long while to find out why there are even zombies in the first place. And when you find out there was an entirely other kind of zombie and that they had killed friends and loved ones of some of the featured characters in horrible ways, it is really hard to relate to the main character and why she fails to understand others might not have recovered as thoroughly from the traumas of the "zombie uprising" as she apparently has. And I do question that she actually has. She's unusual with a bit of mystery even though she's the main character and the story is told from her perspective, so I wonder about her. She's keeping things from us.
Many times she repeats "We ALL went through loss and horror" as an excuse to brush off the reactions of people who don't seem as able to embrace zombies as freely as she does.
Because there are hints to a yet hidden backstory as to why she is like this, I am not going to write off the entire series due to a lukewarm first impression I have of her.
And I don't dislike her. I just don't entirely relate to her or understand her yet.
~~~~Alert: Spoilers explaining how the zombies came to be--this won't ruin any mysteries, but the author takes time to reveal it, so I'm giving a spoiler warning.~~~~
The zombies featured in this story are "placid" zombies. A few years ago a brain altering virus had swept through the world and immediately turned 50% of the population into zombies. Many of these were aggressive fast moving zombies that hunt humans in horrific ways. Fortunately that's not depicted in this story. The other zombies are very quiet peaceful zombies who retain their ability to interact with humans, though they are prone to rotting and aren't as fully engaged and expressive as they were when they were living. They are very likable, nonetheless. But they do tend to rot and smell.
The issue I have with some of the characters in this story is it never seems to occur to them that not all surviving humans can bear to be near this sort of thing--leaving aside for the moment that a lot of them barely survived getting eaten by the aggressive "rabid" zombies. There's a character named Jen who volunteers at the Zombie shelter and she was pretty pushy about asking a new police officer to donate his very limited free time to the shelter. I just kind of couldn't wrap my head around that situation.
I think it might have been easier to get into this story and embrace the characters if we had been given the pertinent information about why the uprising happened at the beginning of the story. Instead we are plunked down into the middle of preparations for a parade and celebration of this weird zombie utopia and it's all disorienting. And it is never explained or even hinted at how commerce and prosperity and normality has been restored to almost manic levels in Zee Town and how the rest of the world is faring with the loss of more than 50 percent of its population to the virus and to violence.
I will reserve judgment on the series and read on and hope to get a better picture. It's a fascinating premise and I don't want to abandon it.
Zombie Daze Zee Town Paranormal Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by KE O'Connor Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I’m not really a fan of zombie fiction, so I started this book with a bit of hesitation. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed it.
The book is essentially a cozy mystery that just happens to have zombies in it. If you like cozies, give this one a shot. I liked it enough that I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I did deduct one star because I found the heroine to be a little annoying with the way she was treating the man who is obviously meant to be her romantic counterpart in future books.
I was given a free copy of this book by Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
I don't normally read paranormal, but this was included in a twenty book giveaway, had a cute cover, so I thought, why not? I received these books in return for an honest review, so here goes.
You can get an idea of the plot above so I'm not repeating that. Despite my reservations, I loved this! Why? Well, the plot was original and I was hooked from the first page. Curiosity hooked me and then all the characters kept me reading. There're are hints of romance in the future, good pacing, well-done characterizations, and good descriptive writing of the setting. Dialogue fitted the characters and there were laughable moments scattered throughout. It can easily be read in one sitting and is a good read if you are curious or want to be entertained or like mystery or just want something different. What's not to like? It truly was a surprise that challenged my perceptions of paranormal writing. It was a delightful read all the way through. Well done, K. E. O'Connor!
Love this series. Very entertaining.
Interesting storyline. First zombie cozy book. I have the rest of the series. I will be reading the rest shortly.
One of the better cozy books have been reading zombie books but this one didn't have all the gore that some do
I loved the idea for this story and can't wait to find out more! I wish I could find out how to access the back story of Nick and Stool. Looking forward to the next installment. Need to know what the real story is about the "zombie queen". Intriguing! !
It is time for the yearly Zombie Carnival held in
See town. This is where you will be introduced to
the various humans and zombie types. After a
virus hit the humans, some were turned into zombies.
They are two zombie types....the rabid killing zombies
and the placid, calm zombies.
Cassie March is a human and theZee Town's tourism
manager who runs the Carnival. Everything is running
smooth until a human is murdered with zombie bite
marks on the body. The town law officer believes a
zombie is the murderer but Cassie believes this to be
untrue. So off she goes to find a murderer.
Interesting, well created characters in a well written,
well plotted story.
